Save to iCloud Drive
Keep a backup in your own cloud storage and understand how it differs from syncing.
Understand the storage method
iCloud Drive stores files you export manually. It is not automatic app syncing. Memories added later do not update an existing exported backup.
Save a cloud copy
- Choose Export backup in Me → Backup & export.
- When preparation finishes, select a folder in iCloud Drive in the system file-saving interface.
- After saving, open Apple’s Files app, check that the file is there and let the system finish uploading it.
If iCloud Drive is unavailable, check its availability and remaining storage in your Apple Account settings in iOS. The system manages file uploads.
Retrieve it on a new phone
Find the same backup through Files on the new device and download it if needed. In Stops & Stories, choose Restore from backup and review the summary before confirming. This replaces existing local data; see the full restore steps.
Keep copies up to date
Export again after adding or changing memories. Dates can help distinguish files. Check that a new backup is saved before deciding whether to remove an older copy. A static backup file is not live multi-device syncing.
